Usage of r10 as a GOT pointer has no direct effect on our kernel port.

The necessary changes for threading don't affect
backwards-compatibility, as far as I can see...

I believe Giuseppe already started a discussion about PIC on this
mailing list... better to follow up there than on the wiki in order to
